The architect for this custom home, taking cues from the owners' formal aesthetic, introduced the idea of an interior courtyard. We took the ball and ran with it: suggesting a higher wall with "windows" and introducing the idea of a European-style motorcourt with cobblestone curbing, we proposed a canopy of trees to order the parking. Developing an interior courtyard structured by box hedges and perennial plantings, the entrance is crafted to provide seclusion, yet invites you through the garden gate. We also suggested the pigeonnier be re-aligned with the office window, creating an axial folly in what we are calling the “cutting and putting” garden. In the rear, a series of gardens and formal lawns, with a fountain/spa and pool are being developed.
